Configuring Apple Mail E-Mail Settings

Please use the following settings to configure the Apple Mail client for your E-Mail services at Buckle Consulting.

First, Open Apple Mail, and click Mail then Preferences on the Menu Bar.

Then click on the 'Accounts' tab. You may already have accounts listed here from your ISP or other E-Mail providors.

Next, click on the '+' at the bottom left hand side of the preferences window to create the new account.

Add Account
On this page, type in your name, the full e-mail address of the account you wish to configure, and the password associated with that account. Once you have done this click 'Continue'.

When you click continue, Mail will try to autodetect the correct settings for the server, and it might display a warning such as the following.

If you get this message, then please click 'Connect'. This is only due to the way that Apple Mail tries to autodetect settings, and in no way means that your E-Mail communications will be transmitted insecurely. Please note that you may see this box several times during the configuration process.

Incoming Mail Server
Type in a short description for this account, this will be used to identify the account throughout Mail. Change the incoming mail server to mail.bucklehosting.com. Set the "User Name" field to be your full E-Mail address. Ensure that your password is also filled in.

Incoming Mail Security
On this page, ensure that the 'Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)' is checked. This ensures that your mail is transferred securely from our servers.

Outgoing Mail Server
Change the Description to something that identies the outgoing mail server to yourself. Here we have used "Buckle Consulting SMTP". The Outgoing Mail Server should be set to smtp.bucklehosting.com, and ensure that 'Use only this server' is checked.
Also, 'Use Authentication' should be checked, and enter the User Name as the full e-mail address of your account. Your password will be the same as used for the Incoming Mail Server.

Outgoing Mail Security
Please ensure that 'Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)' is checked.

Account Summary
Ensure that all the details here are what you were expecting, and make sure that 'Take account online' is checked and then click Create. Your new account should be fully operational in Apple Mail.

Troubleshooting
If for any reason you have issues sending E-Mail then there are usually two causes for this. Firstly, Apple Mail has got the incorrect details. To check this, go back in to your Preferences, and then onto the Accounts Tab.

Here, click on the drop-down box next to "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)". Select "Edit SMTP Server List...". This should bring you to the following window.

Select the SMTP server with the 'Server Name" as "smtp.bucklehosting.com". Then click on the "Advanced" tab, and ensure that a "custom port" is selected, and it is set to 465. Ensure that SSL is enabled, and that the Authentication mode is set to Password. It is also worth double checking your user-name is your full E-Mail address, and that your password is correct here.

Once you have checked this information click OK and then close the preferences window. Apple Mail will request if you wish to save your changes, so click Save.

This should fix any problems you may have with sending E-Mail, however if you still have issues then it is most likey your Internet Service Providor (ISP) that is blocking use of other Outgoing E-Mail Servers for their own spam prevention. If you feel that this is the case, then you should get in contact with your ISP and request a method of enabling this connectivity, as this is something not controlled by Buckle Hosting.
